Course Summary

Christianity in North America

 

An overview of religion on the North American continent from the native American period to the present.  The course is organized in five modules: (1) The Formative Years, (2) An Independent United States, (3) Special Areas.  3 semester hours of graduate credit.

Objectives

Ÿ • Relate the story of Christianity in North America

Ÿ • Identify characters, issues, events, and theological concepts found in the history of Christianity in North America

•Ÿ Contrast the current state of Christianity in Canada, the United States, and Central America

Credit.  Credit for the course requires a score of 70% or greater on three multiple choice examinations and two essays of equal value.  A sample problem is given below.

The most challenging issue facing a person who would teach someone about Jesus Christ in the United States is (A) a language barrier, (B) government restrictions on freedom of speech and religion, (C) a cultural barrier, (D) general disinterest in religious differences.
